Our adventure begins in Laino Borgo, a picturesque town at the heart of Pollino National Park. From here, we set off towards Laino Castello, an abandoned medieval village that offers a fascinating glimpse into Calabria’s past. The ruins of its Lombard castle, along with the cobbled streets and stone houses, tell stories of centuries gone by, making it a perfect stop for history and photography lovers.
We continue our ride towards Mormanno, home to the Church of Santa Maria Goretti, an architectural gem designed by renowned architect Mario Cucinella. This modern church blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, offering a peaceful and reflective atmosphere.
Our next stop is Campotenese, where we take a break at La Catasta, a cultural and gastronomic hub celebrating the Pollino National Park’s traditions. Here, we will enjoy a craft beer tasting, featuring beers made with local ingredients, offering an authentic taste of Calabria.
Back on our bikes, we head towards Morano Calabro, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. This spectacular town, with its houses stacked on a hillside, creates a postcard-perfect view. From here, we continue on the cycling path that connects Morano to Castrovillari, a scenic route surrounded by nature and stunning panoramas.
Next, we reach Civita, a fascinating Arbëreshë (Albanian-heritage) village known for its unique traditions and culture. Here, we will enjoy lunch at a traditional tavern, where we can savor dishes inspired by Arbëreshë cuisine—flavors that have been passed down for generations.
Our journey for the day concludes with our arrival at Castello di Serragiumenta, a majestic 18th-century manor in Altomonte. Here, we will check in for the night and indulge in a delicious dinner, featuring fresh, locally sourced products from the castle’s farm—an immersive culinary experience that highlights the richness of Calabrian gastronomy.
The second day begins with a visit to the agricultural estate of Castello di Serragiumenta, where we will learn about sustainable farming methods and enjoy the serene surroundings of the countryside.
Afterward, we start our return journey, passing through Saracena, famous for its Moscato di Saracena, a historic sweet wine once enjoyed by popes and nobles. This is a perfect stop to learn about Calabria’s rich winemaking tradition.
Our route then takes us through the Lavender Park of Campotenese, often called the “Provence of Italy” for its stunning purple fields in bloom. Here, we can stroll through the fragrant lavender gardens and perhaps purchase some artisanal lavender products as souvenirs.
For lunch, we stop at a local agriturismo in Campotenese, where we will enjoy a traditional Calabrian meal, prepared with fresh, farm-to-table ingredients.
In the afternoon, we continue our return ride, retracing our path through La Catasta and Mormanno, before arriving back in Laino Borgo. Here, we check in at Palias Hotel, a comfortable three-star accommodation, where we can relax and unwind after an exciting two-day journey.
The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, our tour comes to an end—leaving us with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for the beauty, flavors, and history of Calabria.
